Life is a road

Life is a Journey

Hi, this is DocMozy You have often heard people say that Life is a journey. Oliver Goldsmith said 'Life is a journey that must be traveled no matter how bad the roads and accommodations.' In my philosopy, life is a road. There is no set destination. You decide which turn you take and which pothole you are not going to go through. Further, it is not a journey for if you are happy where you are, there is no need to move. If ever it becomes a journey, just remember we are not on the same journey. So here is why I liken life to a road with many exits.

Imagine your world centred on this road. Your road may be long and winding. You do not know where it leads you. You have exit roads, which you can take, along this road. Some roads may lead you into avenues, full of wealth and opportunities. Some may lead you into deserts, dry, barren and full of poverty. Some roads will be crescents, you take a turn and it takes you back to where you started. These are just a waste of time. Others are dead ends, like the closes or cul-de-sacs. You dont want to be there or to settle there. You will miss out on opportunities elsewhere.

Now imagine this, when you are born, you are given two things, a car and a road. As you grow up, you are learning to drive your car. You have a chance to learn well. You have time to look at available maps and get to know your road. You have an opportunity to decide which roads you want to be turning into and search for opportunities. You will also be gifted with and choose what tools you will need to take with you. Your parents and everyone around you, will prepare you with everything you need to know about roads. They will read to you bed time stories about road signs, potholes and speed limits. They will also teach you about other drivers, especially the Demon drivers. They will tell you of the hazards of driving under the influence alcohol and drugs.

The beginning of adulthood is when you get your driving licence. It will not be the same for all of us. For some it will be sooner and for others could be later. Remember our roads are different. Now that you have a licence you are an adult, the rest is up to you. You can park your car and not go anywhere. It will gather dust. You will go hungry. Clothes from your parents will turn into rags. You should therefore get into your car and look for opportunities. You may decide to drive very slowly to preserve your car. Stopping ever so often to polish it. Perhaps stop by the roadside and take a nap. You could reverse the car or turn round and go back to park at your parents's house.

My suggestion would be to keep moving and looking for those opportunities. There are there and you can find them. There are certain turns you will make on your road that will become heaven on earth instantly. Ever heard of being at the right place at the right time? Similarly, there are those turns you will wish you never took. If you turn into a close, come out. If you get into a crescent, it will redirect you back, atleast you are not lost. Now imagine that you decide not to turn at all. You may get carried away and put your foot down on the pedal. You can loose control of your car. Most emotional and mental problems can be likened to loosing control of your car due to over-speeding. Equally a very slow car, or parked car, can result in frustration, stress or even depression.

We already know the negative effect on other road users. Physical health and illness, relate to the condition of your car. When you crash your car you have lost your life. Equally, even when it is parked it will get old and die.You can not preserve it forever. Use it wisely and have no regrets. In this analogy, You, represent your spirit. You are given two things, a body and a life. Your body in this case, is your car. And your life is your road. You, or your spirit decides what you do in your life. You take your car or body on that road, your life to where there are opportunities. Your life or road gives you all the options available to everybody else. So, look after your cars. Drive them safely. Find your opportunities.
